From the Earth's perspective, space debris doesn't seem like a significant issue (after all, we don’t see anything in the sky!). So it was surprising for me to discover a dedicated NASA program focused on measuring and mitigating the negative effects of this debris in Earth’s orbits. As of January 2022, nearly 9,000 tons of debris were recorded in near-Earth space. In my works, I aimed to capture the melting and disintegration of material—mimicking the effect of atmospheric entry and the burning of an object.
